Alternative treatment for scoliosis in Debary

At Ultimate Spine and Wellness, one of the conditions we commonly see in our offices is scoliosis. While kids are the largest groups affected by scoliosis, adults can suffer as well. Many of our patients have heard the term scoliosis and know they have it but don’t know what it means or what they can do about it. Find out what else you should know about this common condition and how chiropractic care can help.

Natural Scoliosis Treatment with Chiropractic Care

Between six and nine million people in the United States have scoliosis, and roughly 100,000 more are diagnosed each year.

What is Scoliosis?

Scoliosis is a spinal disorder defined as a sideways curvature in either the lumbar (low back) or thoracic (mid-back) spine. This curve can either be C-shaped or S-shaped. Scoliosis can be structural meaning the bones are affected and abnormal or functional meaning the muscles aren’t properly working causing the curvature.

What are the signs and symptoms?
  • Uneven shoulders or a shoulder blade that protrudes
  • A rib hump in the mid-back when bending forward
  • A lower back hump when bending forward
  • One hip higher than the other
  • Mid-back or low back pain, this is more common in adults
Who is affected?

Scoliosis is most often seen in children aged 10 to 15 years old. This condition affects girls more often than boys. Scoliosis affects between 6 and 9 million people – around two to three percent of the population in the United States. There is a growing number of adults that have not been properly diagnosed.

How is Scoliosis diagnosed?

Scoliosis must first be properly diagnosed, and an x-ray is the best way to do this. At Ultimate Spine and Wellness we have an on-site digital x-ray. Visualizing spine curvature is done more easily this way, and the “C” and “S” shapes are more prominent in an x-ray. When an individual is officially diagnosed with scoliosis, there are options that can greatly improve the abnormal curvature. Technically speaking, scoliosis is defined as a spine curvature greater than 10 degrees. A curve greater than 25 degrees is considered significant. And a curve exceeding 45 degrees is considered severe.

What are the treatment options?

Chiropractors understand that muscle torsion can influence the pull on the spine. This in turn disrupts the flow of nerve signals from the brain to the body. By addressing this issue and correcting it via chiropractic adjustment, patients can experience a curvature correction ranging from twelve degrees even to complete restoration. Studies have shown active chiropractic treatment has improved the Cobb angle and pain scores. Traditional methods like braces are unable to achieve such results, which is why chiropractic care in the treatment of scoliosis is so intriguing. Working on mirror image postural correction can help aid in the straightening of the curve also.

SCOLIROLL

ScoliRoll® is a Scoliosis treatment aid developed by Denneroll Industries and ScoliCare. It is an innovative device that can be used as an addition to other Scoliosis therapies, such as specific exercise programs and rigid or dynamic bracing. The patented Denneroll peak creates a specific bending moment, de-rotating and straightening the Scoliosis. This enables muscle and ligament stretch and also creates the opportunity for spinal stabilization exercises while the Scoliosis is in a straightened position.

ScoliRoll® can also be used as a diagnostic tool to assess the amount of flexibility in a Scoliosis curve. This gives the Top Chiropractor in Debary an indication of how much curve correction might be achieved with Scoliosis rehabilitation or bracing. The Thoracic ScoliRoll® is designed for use with thoracic and some thoraco-lumbar Scoliosis curves.

How Does ScoliRoll® Scoliosis Treatment Work?
  • Curve Straightening.
  • De-rotation of the spine.
  • Ligament Stretch (especially useful for patients with stiff Scoliosis curves to improve spinal flexibility).

Experts agree that scoliosis is best treated when found early – so if you suspect scoliosis or are unsure, it’s best to get checked right away. Our office in Debary has an on-site digital x-ray which can provide you with the answers you need.
