SPINAL DECOMPRESSION
in Debary, FL, and New Smyrna Beach, FL
Designed by a team of physicians and NASA engineers, this cutting-edge therapy has given our patients relief where other therapies have failed. We have been utilizing this treatment to treat herniated and bulging neck and lower back discs. The therapy is also helpful for facet syndrome, degenerative disc disease, and muscle spasms. Spinal Decompression Therapy not only alleviates the pain associated with these conditions, but it also treats the source of the pain and speeds up the healing process, thereby providing long-term relief.
WHO NEEDS SPINAL DECOMPRESSION?
According to Spine Health, the patients who benefit from spinal decompression are those with bulging or herniated discs and neck pain. It’s also useful for patients with a pinched neck and lower back nerves. Ultimately, this kind of therapy is traction therapy, meaning it functions to pull apart the vertebrae in order to allow bulging/herniated discs a chance to squeeze back into place and to allow an influx of nutrient-rich spinal fluid between vertebrae. This spinal fluid influx creates a healing environment that is usually not possible when vertebrae are too close together. This works a little differently than the traction or “roller” table you may have tried.
The doctor determines the pounds of force and exact angle to start with. The computer tells the table how much pressure to apply and where to create disc distraction—a controlled traction force to the affected vertebrae. This force reduces pressure between discs, allowing herniated discs to return to their original, pain-free positions. Inversion tables are a sort of decompression that may work, but it is not controlled, so they may not be as effective.
Spinal Decompression is available in our two locations: Debary, FL and New Smyrna Beach, FL.
How Long Until It Works?
Any dysfunction in the spinal discs and vertebrae can cause immense pain. Fortunately, the Back and Joint Pain Institute tells us that pain can start to reside after only a few sessions. But how long must you continue treatment? Each session has a cycle of 15 one-minute allotments of pressure followed by a minute of rest for 30 minutes on the table. You will also be treated with hot and cold therapy as well as electrical stimulation.
Most patients receive a 6-week course consisting of treatments 3 times a week for the first 2 weeks, although treatments vary from patient to patient. Knowing you’ll start to be pain-free during the first week is a great motivator!
Most people see roughly an 86% success rate with decompression therapy, we cannot guarantee this since everyone will respond to care differently.
